Animal Welfare in Islam and our Responsibilities

Animals!!! No Doubt the Human-so called Social Animal, sent as superior to all creature they deserve every right to live their life to full. But somehow this super creature, in their own pride, forget the rights of others. Download free veterinary books in pdf format

In Quran Allah says, "And the earth, He has allocated to all living creatures." (Quran 55:10). This Ayah highlight the importance of animals on land which is equally for us and for all living creature.

Hazrat Muhammad P.B.U.H said, " An act of kindness done to animal is like you do good deed to human, likewise an act of cruelty you done to animal is bad as cruelty as to human."

Animals, it’s not wrong to say them as “wonderful creature” of God. Whenever there is question of humans, there is question of animals as well. Whenever there is queries about humans, there is about animals too.  In one hadith it is said, "One who kills unneeded, even a sparrow, will be investigated by Allah on the day of Judgement".

As animals can’t speak, unable to express their feelings it’s our responsibility to look after them. Once Holy Prophet passed by camel who is so weak and emaciated, due to lack of food its back had almost reached stomach. it was in so much pain. He (P.B.U.H) called his owner and said," Fear Allah in these beasts who can’t speak"

Humans and animals are always linked in one another way. Animals are always found companion of humans. They are always available for human in challenges of life, the act as life saver in form of pets, sometimes as a rider in form of fast horses, as a mind therapy in form of fancy looking birds, mostly to meet our food requirements and many more. Though the human has more power but they always withstand with us.

"It is Allah who has given you all the in the manner of livestock, that you may ride on some of them and from some you may drive food. and there are other uses in them for you to satisfy your hearts desires. it is on them, as on ships, that you make your journeys" (Quran 40:79-80)

Animal cruelty by humans is increasing day by day. We come through such cases of animal cruelty which shake someone’s faith. Do we really send for this?? Is this indicate our superiority?? For this we are really born?? No, never… indeed we fail to remember our fate.

The Prophet (P.B.U.H) alert, “there is no one who kills a small bird or anything larger for just nothing, but Allah, the Mighty and magnificent, will ask him about it”

Our religion which entitled us as superior, but never leave others behind. It gives equal rights to animals as well.

“There is not an animal that lives on the earth, nor being that flies on its wings, but they form communities like you. Nothing have we omitted from the Book, and they all shall be gathered to their Lord in the end” (Quran 6:38).

This means that animals are always welcome to build their own communities like humans, we are no one to destroy their homes or to deprive them from basic necessities.

Food for Thought:

We are living in purely Muslim country whose foundations are laid on the name of Islam. How are we so lacking our teachings? Not go so long we just emphasize on some recent cases where a 15-year-old nasty boy with his cousins raped a innocent kitten. A pregnant elephant- having a tiny life inside her womb was killed by brutal humans, many stray dogs and cats are dying due to lack of food due to us, we like to through our extra food into garbage but we never bother to feed such animals… how insane we are!! What was their fault??  A cart driver loaded his donkey with more stuff than it bears, its even difficult for him to raise, but why we care??

Wild life, consider as our rich heritage, what we are doing? We just caught them from their natural habitats and through them in hell jails where there is no food, no water, no care. Two lions died during shifting due to improper management. Elephant in zoo is suffering from weight loss because of no food is given. Humans hunt many wild species for their fun thus eliminating this gold from earth. We hunt many species for fun and thus not vanishing them from earth but also disturbs the whole ecosystem.

Humans have access to all have luxuries of life made by Allah likewise animals do have freedom to live their lives as they want. If we own an animal then it’s our first duty to provide the basic freedom to it.

      Freedom from hunger and thirst,

      Freedom from discomfort,

      Freedom from pain and injury,

      Freedom from fear and distress,

      Freedom to express normal behavior.

Steps to be taken:

     I.        Now there are many NGOs that are working on the rights of animals at least

we have to inform one of them to eliminate such cruelty.

o   Pakistan animal welfare

o   Edhi Animal hostel

o   Animal Care association Pakistan

o   Vets care organization

o   Animal safety organization

II.        Just place a bowl of food and clean water in your balcony or gardens for birds. So, the birds can easily approach there and quench thirst or eat whenever they want.

III.        Instead of through your food in garbage, mark a little area outside your home and place food in that specified are where cats or dogs are easily found and meet their hunger

IV.        Educate people around you, no to kill them or harm them rather help them in pain.

   V.        If you find injured animal, just rescued it, foster it to remove its pain. or at least leave it to hospital or other rescue homes for proper care.

VI.        In the it is concluded that live for the creature of Allah so you will be rewarded in this life and the life after death which is immortal.
